Anxiety
by Dr. Rajesh Shah Definition:
Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension, worry or dread. It
is normal for people to worry, but some people worry
excessively and uncontrollably. It is considered a
disorder if the anxiety has been going on for at least 6
months. Anxiety neurosis is a disorder where the patient
is excessively and inappropriately anxious and often this
state is associated with other symptoms such as chest
pain, constriction of the throat, or cold, sweaty
extremities.
This disorder is common in general population and women
are twice as likely as men to have the disorder.
The anxiety and worry of anxiety neurosis disorder are so
extreme that they become difficult to control. In
addition, the person experiences three or more of the
following symptoms: restlessness, easy fatigue, difficulty
in concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, and disturbed
sleep. Worries are general in nature; common worries
include work responsibilities, money, health, safety, car
repairs, and chores. The severity, frequency, or duration
of the worries is disproportionately greater than the
situation calls for. It also has an impact on the physical
well being of the sufferer. Symptoms include increased
heartbeat, muscle pain and tension, increased need to
urinate, palpitations, cold chills or hot flushes, epigastric discomfort, nausea, and dizziness. They usually
have impaired social and work functioning.
Remarks: The precise
reason why people develop this disorder is ill understood.
However there is strong link of this disorder with
heredity and genetic predispositions. This genetic
proneness when topped with faulty upbringing and education
or stresses at work place or home can trigger the disease.
The course of this condition is variable but tends to be
fluctuating and chronic.
Suggestion about homeopathic
treatment: Considering the genetic tendencies
at the root of the disease, it can be clearly perceived
that treatment directed towards modification of the
genetic trait is going to be the most effective and
providing long-term solution to the problem. On this
background, homoeopathy has great role to play in the
management of anxiety neurosis. Homoeopathy medicines
working at root level, can counter the genetic proneness
to the condition. Homoeopathy has very effective medicines
to deal with all the emotional and bodily symptoms
associated with disorder. The point that should be
emphasized is that the benefits of homoeopathy are devoid of
any side-effects in contrast to conventional
anti-depressants and anxiolytics prescribed for the
condition. Homoeopathy is very strongly recommended for
anxiety neurosis.
