Case Studies of Post-Hydrocephalus paresis of the lower limbs This is the case of a 1 year old girl, baby C. J. F. (Patient ref. no: S-5822) who was brought to the clinic by her parents. She had complaints of weakness of both lower limbs. She was a full term normal delivery but she had developed meningitis on the first day after birth. She was operated for the same on the third day after birth. She was operated for a shunt for hydrocephalus at three months of age. Following he hydrocephalus, she had developed weakness of the lower limbs. At one year of age she was able to roll about in the bed but was not able to sit up on her own or stand. She had a normal appetite but she was a lean and thin child. She would be more comfortable in the warm weather. She had not gained any control over her bowel and bladder functions. Her sleep was sound. Her family included her parents, one elder sister and her grandparents. She was on physiotherapy for her complaints. Based on the above history she was prescribed Causticum in the 200th potency repeatedly. Within about 3 months after starting the treatment, she was slowly able to sit without any support. Her mobility was better than before. She had also started crawling on her own. After another 4-5 months of treatment, she was able to stand with some support such as hat of a chair or a table. Her bladder and bowel control remained poor still. She started walking with supporting another few months. The only problem persisting now was that she would pass urine or stools whenever she would get excited and she had no control over these. She would make efforts now to walk on her own but she would still need some support. She is still undergoing treatment for her complaints of poor control of bowel and bladder functions. She is 2 ½ years old now and she is expected to gain some control over these with continued treatment. This case illustrates to us the supportive role of Homeopathy in the treatment of such neurological disorders. Physiotherapy needs to be continued in such cases for better improvement of the functions. The results may be slow but they are definitely positive. Remark: The remedy prescribed in these cases is patient-specific i.e. it has been prescribed based on the symptoms specific to the patient at that point of time.
