Alopecia Areata:
One of the types of alopecia is alopecia areata, in which abnormal hair fall suddenly occur without any presence of other ailment factors and can be diagnosed with small or medium-sized circular patches on the scalp, beard, mustache, eyebrows, etc. These spots will feel soft when examined with fingers.

Alopecia areata is usually classified under the section of autoimmune diseases. In this condition, there is inhibition in the growth in hair roots and, because of that, hair falls out from a particular area. The borders of these spots may impart a cold feeling when examined by the back of the hand. It is very important to diagnose the condition and do a hair pull test at the borderlines of the spot just to analyze the severity of the condition.

In Alopecia areata, the hair roots remain dormant, and, so, by taking significant treatment, you may experience regrowth of the hair by stimulating the dormant hair follicles. Fortunately, you have homeopathy at your rescue to treat the condition remarkably and safely without any side-effects.

Let’s have a look at a case of alopecia areata that was treated by homeopathy effectively.

A male patient (PIN: 40430) visited Life Force Homeopathy clinic on 17th June 2019 with the presenting complaint of having bald patches on the scalp and beard which he was suffering for 2 years. His scalp was having one moderate-sized patch in the left temporal area with slight scarring. His beard contained 2-3 small-sized patches. The patient had taken steroidal injections (Inj. Tricort 10 mg) 2 years back and got a remission period of about one year. However, he experienced a relapse in April 2019 for which he took a steroidal injection again but didn’t get any relief. The patient suffered from the issues of generalized hair fall, receding of frontal hairlines, and a loss of hair density in general. He had no history of any autoimmune diseases in the family, nor he had anyone with similar hair fall issues in the family members.
The progression of the disease was quite slow, and it was spreading very slowly.

He had associated complaints such as allergic rhinitis on and off since childhood that used to get aggravated after eating the banana, getting exposed to the dust, and due to the change of climate. Usually, he used to control the situation by taking antihistamines and, sometimes, antibiotics.

The patient was a pure vegetarian and had an average appetite. He didn’t like sweets much. He had excessive thirst and used to drink 3-4 liters of water per day. The patient was a chilly patient. His bowels were satisfactory, and he mentioned no gastric issues. He was enjoying a good sleep.

The patient was working in the Navy - Government sector. He did blood tests for Thyroid profile and Vitamin levels, in which his Vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels were less than optimal level. So, the supplements for the same were prescribed to the patient.

Current Allopathic medicines that he used were Tacrolimus (steroidal) ointment in the last 2 months and Zinc supplements in the last 2 months. The patient was recommended to stop the steroidal medicines by tapering off the dosage in the coming months to reduce the steroidal side-effects.

The case was thoroughly studied by Dr. Rajesh Shah, and he prescribed medicines for the first 2 months to the patient.

Follow-Ups:

By 29th August 2019, after taking the first dose of homeopathic medicines for about 2 months, the patches on the scalp and beard happened to be stable, and there was no further spread of the disease. The size of the spots was as it is.

By 23rd November 2019, the hair fall from the patches and border areas had stopped completely. Moreover, slight hair regrowth had started which was more on the scalp patches. Also, the recovery from his beard patches showed some significant improvement.

By 25th Jan 2020, the patient’s condition was stable. No new patched had appeared on the scalp and beard. Even though there was no much improvement in the last two months, the patient’s condition was stable.

By 22nd April 2020, there was an overall improvement with the growth of hair in the spots. But, there was a slight spread in the scalp spots, particularly those on the backside. The spots on the beard appeared to be stable in the pics, even though the patient was saying there was not much improvement and there was a slight spread. His relief in allergic rhinitis was also getting better, as he experienced no episodes in the past many months.

By 10th October 2020, the patient was reporting overall improvement in recovery from all the spots. He was saying that he had experienced about 90% relief in the complaint. The spots on the scalp and beard had disappeared, and he was experiencing normal hair-growth. The patient was relieved and happy about the treatment. Now, the patient’s main concern was about the receding frontal hairlines.

Conclusion:
This case highlights that homeopathy has a very effective role in treating autoimmune diseases like alopecia areata and it addresses and corrected the root cause of the condition. So, it plays a significant role in the treatment of chronic conditions like alopecia areata and can provide you a long-term remission period with no relapses and safely without any side-effects.
