It affects the mucous membrane of the mouth, tongue, inner side of the cheeks, gums and palate.<\/p>\n<p>It usually affects adults over the age of 25 years, but some people at younger age and even children sometimes are affected with this condition.<\/p>\n<h2>Symptoms of Lichen Planus:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a very painful condition with red, swollen, painful patches and even the open sores or ulcers inside the mouth or the oral cavity. It can affect tongue, inner cheeks, palate or gums.<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity to having hot or cold fluids like tea, coffee, hot milk, hot chocolate, sugar etc.<\/li>\n<li>Inability to eat spicy foods.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes patients complain of change of taste or loss of taste, bleeding and pain while brushing the teeth, and inflammation of gums called as gingivitis.<\/li>\n<li>Lesions of Lichen Planus are usually bilateral however that is not rule.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes it may be associated with melanin pigment deposits (brown color) in the oral cavity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are the causes of Lichen Planus?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Oral Lichen Planus can be caused by following causes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Constant irritation by dental implants<\/li>\n<li>Repeated trauma at one spot in the oral cavity<\/li>\n<li>Long term consumption of NSAIDS i.e. nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.<\/li>\n<li>Long term use of anti-malarials.<\/li>\n<li>Long term use of certain cardiac drugs like beta blockers and ACE inhibitors.<\/li>\n<li>Stress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Can Lichen Planus get converted into cancer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oral Lichen Planus is sometimes a pre-cancerous condition, however, if it is not given attention and left behind then it can turn into a cancerous growth.<\/p>\n<h2>Management of painfulness in Oral Lichen Planus:<\/h2>\n<p>Lichen Planus is one of the most painful conditions. During the course of treatment patient has to follow the below given tips.
