Managing Diabetic Neuropathy with Integration of Homeopathy and Conventional Medicine

Forty-six years old Mr. HVK (patient identification number 25620) visited Life Force Homeopathy in May 2015 for complaints of Diabetic Neuropathy. (He also had seborrhic dermatitis, which is described separately in another case study.)

He was diagnosed as having diabetes in 2013. There were sudden weakness and weight loss for which he got investigated. His blood sugar level was more than 450 mg/dl and glycosylated hemoglobin was 12.5 IU indicating poor blood sugar control. His treating Physician had prescribed conventional medicines for him i.e. tab. Janumet 50/500 twice in a day daily. Gradually his blood sugar level was under control with the conventional line of treatment but he developed diabetic neuropathy. He would experience pain and numbness in his right leg, right foot, and right great toe. He would get electric current like pain continuously throughout the day. He would get heaviness in right leg daily in the evening.

Though he was taking conventional medicines for his diabetes, the symptoms were persistent.

He had associated complaints of Seborrheic dermatitis for which he was taking homeopathic treatment. He also complained of constipation. He reported that his stools were hard and he would strain to pass stools.

His mother had long-standing complaints of varicose veins.

He could not tolerate hot weather and would drink very less water. He would perspire profusely whenever he would go out in sun. He would prefer a vegetarian diet, would eat eggs occasionally. His wound healing was slow.

He was staying in Dubai since last six years along with his wife and son. His parents used to stay in Mumbai. He was working with a finance firm and his wife was a banker. There was a lot stress related to finance as well as the job.   He wanted to work in Mumbai but due to some circumstances he had to leave  his job in Mumbai and then could not get a good job here so shifted to Dubai. He was calm and reserved kind of a person whereas his wife was somewhat aggressive. He had lack of  self-confidence, so he felt that this was the reason he could not get a good job in Mumbai. He was anxious about the health of his mother as he was staying away from parents.

With all the case details Dr. Shah analyzed the case and prescribed research-based medicines for the patient.

In September 2015, patient reported significant improvement in his diabetic neuropathy. He mentioned eighty percent improvement in pain and numbness in right leg. The continuous electric current like sensation in the right foot and great toe was reduced by eighty percent. Investigations done in Sept 2015 showed that blood sugar level before and after meals was under control (BSL fasting: 90 mg/dl, BSL post lunch 140 mg/dl). He continued the conventional medicines for diabetes prescribed by a physician. Dr.Shah upgraded the prescription after the follow-up.

In December 2015, patient reported further relief in Diabetic neuropathy. The pain, numbness and heaviness in the right leg, right foot and right great toe was better by ninety percent. His blood sugar level was under control. He was taking Tab. Janumet, which was reduced to half tablet twice a day from one tablet twice a day. Dr. Shah prescribed the medicines after analyzing follow-up.

During January 2016 to August 2016, the patient got further relief in the complaints and he continued taking research-based homeopathic medicines at Life Force.

In September 2016 patient reported complete relief in diabetic neuropathy. The pain, numbness and heaviness in the right leg, right foot and right great toe was completely better. Blood sugar level done in September 2016 was under control with conventional treatment. (BSL fasting: 110 mg/dl, BSL post lunch 165 mg/dl). He continued Tab. Janumet prescribed by a physician. He got complete relief not only in diabetic neuropathy but also in constipation, hair fall, and Seborrheic dermatitis. The patient was satisfied the treatment he received for his multiple complaints.

This case highlights the supportive role of homeopathy in the case of diabetes. Homeopathic treatment along with intake of conventional medicines can prevent the progress and the complications associated with this condition. Moreover timely administered homeopathic medicines help in maintaining the levels of exogenous insulin and hypoglycemic drugs at the minimum possible dosage and in preventing the further progress of the disease.
