  • Case Studies of Fibroadenoma

This is a case of Miss P. S. (Patient identification number: S5832), a 20 year old girl who reported to the clinic on 25.06.03. She was accompanied by her parents. She complained of having lump in the left breast since the past 6 months. She had been already operated and the lump was removed before she had come to our center. After this surgical intervention, there was a recurrence of the lump in her right breast within a month and a new lump had developed in the left breast within 6 weeks. The lumps were gradually increasing in size.

    Personal details:
She had liking for spicy food. She was very sensitive to hot weather and could not take hot climate at all. There has been a history of somnambulism in her case 3 years back.

    Constitution:
She was a girl who was tall, dark in complexion and lean by physical structure.

    Family set up:
She was in the last year of her graduation and was pursuing her studies in the field of commerce.
Her family consisted of her father who was doing a job in RCF, her mother who was a housewife, and her elder brother.

    Emotional sphere:
She was a brilliant girl. She was very smart by nature. She also had fear of darkness. She loved to learn German language and had completed her basic studies where by she could communicate in German and could also write in German.

    Past history:
She had past history of jaundice, typhoid, and recurrent malarial episodes. She also had asthmatic bronchitis as a child.

    Family history:
Her father reported to have hypercholesterolemia, mother had history of tuberculous lymph nodes, and her maternal aunt had muscular dystrophy.

    On examination:
On examination it was revealed that she had bilateral lobed, large and mildly tender fibroids in both her breasts.

    Investigations:
The biopsy of the swelling confirmed that it was intracanalicular fibroadenoma.

    Prescriptive totality:
Based on this totality she was prescribed the homoeopathic medicines namely Carcinosin 200, Silicea 200, Phytolacca 200, Thuja 200 and Tuberculinum 1M.

    Follow up details:
After the administration of these drugs the size of the fibroids was stabilized and the further growth of these fibroids was halted. Due to the fibroids she used to develop intermittent backache. This backache would be worse by stooping and by bending. For these complaints also she was treated with homoeopathy and the pain improved significantly.

After 4 months of treatment, it was found that the lump on her right breast has regressed almost by 60%, whereas the one on the left breast had regressed by 65%.

With subsequent treatment, the lumps on both her breast regressed further in size. After taking the medication for 4 more months, she reported that the lumps in both her breast had practically gone away.

She however reported that her menses had been very irregular off late. She was treated with suitable medication for her irregular medicines in order to correct the internal hormonal disharmony within the body.

She continued treatment for about 3 years, after which her complaints have all disappeared. There has been no recurrence of any of the breast lumps which she had before starting the treatment. Even the menses have been regularized largely.

Remarks: This case depicts the best example wherein one should understand the fact that surgery is not always an ultimate option for all types of diseases. There are ample of opportunities available where by one can save oneself from the surgeon’s knife.
