Gabapentin Dependent Trigeminal Neuralgia Got 90% Healed With Homeopathy
A 68-year-old male patient, Mr. A.S. (PIN: 32662) came to Life Force and started treatment for his complaints of Trigeminal neuralgia in 2017.
He was suffering from Trigeminal neuralgia for the past 7 years and was dependent on medicines, such as gabapentin & carbamazepine, for a very long time.
Daily, he used to experience a sharp needle-like pricking pain in the right part of the face. The pain used to start from the jawline and used to radiate to the head followed by a burning sensation. He used to suffer from severe agonizing pain. Although the medicines for trigeminal neuralgia were used to relieve the agonizing pain, the pain used to get relieved only for 2 -3 hours a day.
By profession, he was a teacher. He mentioned that he loved his profession of teaching but, due to this constant pain of trigeminal neuralgia and the medicines such as gabapentin & carbamazepine, he used to experience a lack of focus & forgetfulness.
The patient was staying with his family, and there was no stress in the family. He was impulsive and used to get irritable very easily. He used to get angry about small things. Otherwise, he was a friendly and calm person and used to gel with everyone nicely.
After studying the case in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed some research-based homeopathic medicines along with some dietary tips to the patient. The patient was also informed about tapering the dose of steroids and not stopping it all of a sudden as it can cause an increase in the disease symptoms.
Follow-Ups:
On 8th September 2017, when the patient visited us for his first follow-up along with his son, he explained that the patient was better with a 30% reduction in his symptoms. There was a decrease in the pain and burning in the right part of his face. Overall, he was better by 30%. He was stable with the medicines.
On 22nd October 2017, when the patient reported for his second follow-up, he explained how he experienced a further improvement in his pain. There was further improvement with our homeopathic medicines. This time, he mentioned that he was better by 50%. The burning was minimal, and the pain had reduced from daily to once a week. He was asked to taper off the dosage of gabapentin and reduce the medicines from daily to once in 15 days.
On 24th December 2017, there was more improvement in his relief. The intensity of his pain was reduced further after the second follow-up. The patient mentioned that he had experienced 80% improvement in his relief in the intensity of pain and burning around the mouth. He was stabilizing with Homeopathic medicines at present.
On 3rd April 2018, when the patient reported for a follow-up, he mentioned that this time he had experienced no pain, no burning, and no difficulty while eating or chewing the food. He explained that he was 95% better in his relief in the complaints of trigeminal neuralgia and was immensely happy with the improvement. He was glad that he no more needed gabapentin and Tegretol.
At present, the patient is taking treatment to avoid the relapse of the condition and is following maintenance therapy to avoid the recurrence of trigeminal neuralgia.
