Complaint of urticaria since about 7 years. Mainly erythematous wheals around the nose and on the chin that would be very itchy

47 years old female, Mrs. C.P.M, (Patient ref. no: L7341) reported to the clinic for complaints of urticaria since about 6-7 years. She mainly complained of erythematous wheals around the nose and on the chin that would be very itchy. She would also have burning pain on the affected parts when the wheals would come up. These complaints would be worse in winter, worse on sweating and from using soap. She would not like the affected parts to be touched as it would worsen her burning. She was on allopathic treatment for the last 5 years but this had not given her much relief from the complaints. Recently she had been started on steroids that had given her some relief but the eruptions would still come back again after some time. As a last resort she turned to homoeopathy.

She also had complaints of dandruff since many years and this caused much itchiness of the scalp. She had hyperpigmented patches on both her cheeks (melasma) and these had come up during her peri-menopausal period.

She was a vegetarian with normal appetite and water intake. She was very fond of ice-creams. She would sweat profusely and her perspiration would be offensive. She had no complaints with her bowels or bladder functions. Her menses had become very irregular, about once in a few months and would last about 3 days. She had no complaints before, during or after her menses. She had 2 children; daughter aged 22 years and son aged 17 years; both were normal full-term deliveries.

She was a cheerful, caring and loving housewife and denied any major stress of any kind. She was loquacious and would love to be in the company of people and talk away all her time. She described her nature and very sensitive with a tendency to weep easily. Her weeping would be worse from consolation. She would never express her anger whenever she would get angry about anything. She was fond of music and would enjoy listening to old songs.

There was no history of any major illness in her past except for frequent colds during change of weather. Her mother was hypertensive and her sister had some pigmentation problems that she could not adequately describe.

Based on the above history she was prescribed Sepia 200 along with a dose of Carcinosin 200. She reported to us 2 weeks later with some improvement; her medication was continued. Another 2 weeks later, she reported with no further improvement in the urticaria although her dandruff was much better than before (about 75% better). After regular medication for another 2 months, her urticaria was about 80-90% better. She was completely off her allopathic medication by this time and was doing very overall health-wise with homoeopathy. Thus after 6 months of regular homoeopathic medication, she was completely free of her urticaria and off all her allopathic medication which she had not been able to discontinue even once since so many years.
