Slow and gradual control attained with homeopathy in a case of Polymyositis.

Mrs. S. U. D., forty seven years old home maker visited Life Force on 20th September 2010. She had gradually developed weakness in her lower body. This started around 1992 when her weakness was so much that she could even not kick the football too far. Gradually she felt her walking had become slow and stressful. She would require support to climb stairs. After 2000, she also started falling frequently. At present, since a year or two she could even fall down by a slight push. She now used to walk with the help of walker. She required support to get up from chair. She could not sit down on floor. She would tend to fall due to weak and involuntary twisting of ankles. She was previously diagnosed as a case of myopathy but it was progressive. She was investigated by a neurologist in August 2010. The tests done were – 1.) CPK – 282 2.) Muscle biopsy – polymyositis, 3.) X ray of both knee joints – bilateral osteoarthritis (right more than left), 4.) Nerve conduction test – l5 radiculopathies and sensorimotor polyneuropathy, 5.) Electromyogram – primary muscle disorder. She was a dancer before marriage. Her husband was a chef in a renowned hotel in Mumbai. She was fond of cooking, movies, watching TV, dance, chatting with friends, computer etc. one day surfing through internet regarding her condition she came across Dr. Shah’s website. She then came to Dr. Shah to start her treatment. She was a positive and fun loving person with childlike innocence. She was adjusting and social as a person. She feared staying alone and darkness. She had always been mild and yielding in nature as her elder sister seemed to be dominating. She was obese, weighing ninety five kilograms. She had been diagnosed with underactive thyroid, fifteen years ago and was taking conventional medicines. She had severe pain in knees since three to four years due to osteoarthritis. The pain was as intense as if a cartilage had been fractured. She was taking multivitamins, pain killers and calcium tablets as prescribed by her doctor. She had an average appetite and liked all tastes and fish. She would sweat profusely. She was intolerant of warm temperature. Dr. Shah prescribed few research based medicines after a detailed case analysis. She was explained by Dr. Shah the scope and recovery possible with homeopathy. After 6 months (24th March 2011) of medications, she was happy with the slow and gradual improvement up till now. The weakness in her legs was less. She was able to walk with the walker to slight more distance than normal. Her dependency on pain killers was decreasing. Dr. Shah upgraded her prescription subsequently. After a year’s (14th November 2011) medications her symptoms were stable. She could judge the difference she had in her complaints within a year. The deterioration had slowed down. The pain and weakness was less as compared to a year before. The joint pains and bone pains she felt were same. The acidity due to intake of pain killers was much less. The medicines were upgraded by Dr. Shah. After a year and half’s (22nd March 2012) medications her CPK levels had reduced to 179 from 219. The symptoms were stable. The weakness and pain in the legs was further improved. There was no further deterioration in the symptoms. The joint pain and bone pains were same. Dr. Shah was reviewing the follow ups and upgrading the medicines as required. After two years (28th September 2012) medications, she was overall 30% relieved of the pain and weakness. The joint pains as well the bone pains were improving. She had been detected with cervical spondylitis, two months back and was taking physiotherapy for the same. Dr. Shah had added few medicines for this as well. The pain killers were completely stopped. Her acidity was well under control. She was happy with the improvement so far. After two and half years (10th April 2013) medications there was further improvement. She would walk with the help of a walker and her speed and mobility had increased over time after medications. The acidity was improved by 70%. The joint pains and bone pains were also improving. Since past six months she was maintaining her diet and walking and was able to lose fourteen kgs and was happy to report it. She had always been positive about her recovery. After three years (30th September 2013) medications she was feeling much better about her recovery. The positive being, the disease process had stopped deteriorating. It was well under control. The symptoms of pains and weakness had improved to considerable extent. She is still under our care. Homeopathy has a significant role to play in such difficult diseases and help patients to live as normal life as possible. (Uploaded on 3 March 2014, by Dr. M.N.P.)
