Reported of urticaria since the past 3-4 months. Had these episodes every day. which become worse in the later part of the evening.

This is a case of a 61 year old gentleman M. B.K.B (Patient identification number: S-5321) who reported to the clinic with complaints of urticaria since the past 3-4months. He had these episodes almost every day. These episodes are worse in the later part of the evening especially from 5 to 10 pm.

Associated complaints: He also complained of pain in the knee joints since the past 10 years. The knee pain was worse after any form of exertion. Considering his age and other factors it was suspected that his knee pain was due to osteoarthritis.

His personal details: He had craving for sweets. The frequency of his urination was more, around 4-5 times every night. He also took more time to void urine than usual. He does get angry but then he is able to control his anger very well. He also is very precise in his talk.

Past medical history: He had undergone surgery for piles.

His family history: His father also suffered with urticaria.

Past medication: He was given oral steroids for 10 days when he visited his local doctor.

Current medication: He was started on T. Allegra (antihistaminic) 180 m daily dose.

Considering this case he was given suitable homoeopathic remedies for a period of 3 weeks. The patient was advised to taper the dose of T. Allegra to 90 mg after 10 days of taking the medicines.

After 3 weeks when the patient re[ported for is follow up his urticaria was the same. He was given further medicines and was asked to report again after 3 weeks. This time when he came back, the intensity with which the urticarial rashes appeared was much less. He felt much better even if he slept in a room where the temperature was cooler. However he was not able to taper the T. Allegra dosage.

After continuous treatment for 4 months there were no urticarial rashes whatsoever. However he had continued to take T. Allegra 180 mg daily dose. There were some necessary changes made in the line of treatment. He reported to us after a period of next 4 months of treatment. He was now advised to reduce the dosage of T. Allegra to 90 mg daily dose. He continued with this dose for around\d 6 weeks during which he was absolutely symptom free. After this period he was able to taper the dosage of T. Allegra further more where by he was advised to take it 6 mg daily dose.

Furthermore, gradually the dosage of Allegra was tapered to 30 mg daily dose. During this phase of treatment there were times where in he had o even take T. Allegra 60 mg occasionally for a week or so after which he could step back to 30 mg daily dose.

This pattern continued for another a year or so after which he advised to taper it of to 20 mf daily dose. He did not have any problems even after tapering the dose further. He was now advised to completely be off Allegra. Even if no antihistaminic were taken the patient was asymptomatic.

He is advised to continue treatment to see if he had no complaints. We are about to conclude his treatment and he is completely urticaria free after a systematic homeopathic treatment taken for around 4 years.

Remarks: This is a message to our readers of this site to examine more case studies and to realize the fact that you could be completely urticaria free if you had he patience and persistence as this gentleman to fight against your illness.
