A case of Vitiligo with Under active thyroid (Hypothyroid)

Mrs. BG, aged 39 years (Patient reference number: 8678), came with the complaint of Vitiligo. She was suffering from vitiligo for the last 4 years. She had sporadic white patches on many parts of the body, on the face, chest, back, hands and legs. Her lips, skin around the eyes, fingertips were also involved. This was a mucocutaneous involvement of the body. Her vitiligo spots were rapidly increasing. She was on oral as well as topical steroids and had taken PUVA rays as well, for her vitiligo complaint. But nothing was helping her. Then she decided to start homeopathy.

She was also suffering from acidity (gastritis) for 2 years.

She was short-tempered as far as children’s studies were concerned but generally friendly by nature. She was a happy go lucky person. She loved to cook and was religious by nature. Her husband worked in Kuwait. Her son was in class VIII.

She had no family history of vitiligo. Her mother was diabetic and hypertensive. Her paternal aunt was also suffering from vitiligo.

Based on her detailed case history, Dr Rajesh Shah prescribed his research-based homeopathic medicines. After two months of homeopathic treatment, re-pigmentation started on her face, forearm, and neck. No new spots were noticeable. Her acidity complaints were also reduced comparatively. She steadily progressed with healthy re-pigmentation. Gradually her face became completely normal. She became very happy and optimistic. As she could stop cortisone her acidity also reduced.

In two years she got around 50 % re-pigmentation in her extensive vitiligo. After two years of treatment suddenly there were a few new spots. Her symptoms of acidity also resurfaced. She was facing a stressful period in her life as she had to attend to her ailing parents and her son was in class X. He was not studious and used to waste time watching TV and with friends. She was much stressed, she also gained some weight. From the narration of her complaints, it was presumed that she might be having some thyroid-related disorder. To confirm her clinical diagnosis, she was advised to get her thyroid levels checked. Her reports confirmed that she is suffering from Underactive Thyroid.

She was given an option of conventional or homeopathic treatment but she opted for homeopathic treatment. So was given treatment for Underactive Thyroid, simultaneously.

The elevated levels of TSH showed that she was suffering from hypothyroidism. She was treated for hypothyroidism along with vitiligo. After the treatment for one year, her TSH level came to normal.

Her acidity also reduced. The spread in her spots stopped.

After the treatment for 4 years, there is over 70% of re-pigmentation is seen on her forearms, hands, knee, around eyes, elbows, feet, and torso.

She is still advised to continue treatment in order to see re-pigmentation on other parts as well.
