Anxiety about my IBS had locked me in my home – Now I am free

Thirty-seven years old, Mr. V. N. P. (Patient Identification Number: 21484) visited the clinic on 10th August 2013 with complaints of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and anxiety.

The patient’s complaints started in 2010 with piles. After which he started suffering from complaints of bloating which worsened over 2011-2012. He would experience mild to moderate dull aching pain in the lower abdomen once or twice a week. The episode would last for about a week. The patient would get anxious to move out of the house during the episodes for fear of the urge to pass stools while he would be out. He had tried various modes of treatment for the same for periods of six months or more with no relief. Patient-reported that his grandfather also had some gastric complaints.

He also had complaints of disturbed sleep almost every night since 2008. He would keep thinking about family, business, etc.

He was a vegetarian with an average diet and normal thirst. He would perspire more on the face and be equally sensitive to hot as well as cold temperatures. He would pass semisolid stools while there were no complaints regarding urine.

He had a business of ready-made garments along with his father. His wife and mother were homemakers. He had two school-going children. He was quite punctual, perfectionist. He enjoyed his work.

The main stress that affected him was the IBS complaint – he would feel nervous to go out due to the fear of urge for stools. He was highly anxious for petty, daily routine tasks.

With all these case details, his case was analyzed by Dr. Shah and he has prescribed some research-based medicines.

Within four months of treatment (12th Dec 2013) patient reported that thought the complaints of IBS were persistent but his fear of eating out had reduced. During the episodes of IBS, his anxiety was the most marked feature even then. Taking his symptoms into consideration, Dr. Shah upgraded his prescription.

With further eight months of treatment (21 Aug 2014), the patient reported that there was substantial relief in IBS, though the anxiety still remained. The dull aching pain in the lower abdomen, alternating constipation, and diarrhea episodes were quite reduced n frequency and intensity. But the fear of the complaints returning would still play on his mind. He was happy that his sleep had improved quite well and would get six-seven hours of refreshing sleep.

When the patient visited after five months of further treatment (29th Jan 2015), he reported to be 95% better in his complaints of IBS and also the anxiety associated with it. After reviewing the feedback, Dr. Shah further adjusted the doses.

He continued the treatment and after four months (29th May 2015), he was highly satisfied with the results achieved. His IBS complaint of dull aching pain in the lower abdomen, bloating, diarrheas was almost in remission. He said that in spite of occasional minor discomforts; he would feel more confident and less anxious as compared to the onset of his treatment.

He is still continuing with the treatment but is satisfied that homeopathic medicines have not only relieved his physical suffering but also improved his quality of life.
