Complaints of IBS aggravated due to having junk food, milk and soya in a 24 year old with alternate diarrhoea and constipation.

This is a case of a 24-year-old Mr O.W (Patient Reference No L-6294) who reported to the clinic with gastric complaints since 5 years. He was suffering from constipation and bloating sensation in the abdomen. He had to strain a lot while passing stool. All his gastric complaints aggravated due to having junk food, fatty food like cheese, milk and Soya. Stress seemed to be an important factor in aggravating his symptoms.

He was alternately also suffering from loose motions (diarrhoea) for about once in every fifteen days. His complaints of diarrhoea were aggravated by aerated drinks and while travelling.

Along with his complaints of IBS, he also suffered from dull aching pain in both the knees. It was particularly more on the left side than the right side. His complaints of knee pain were aggravated by walking, excessive straining (work out in the gym), physiotherapy exercises, sitting and while straightening his legs.

He had a history of Keloids since childhood. He had Keloids on his left arm, left thigh and on the left ear pinna for which he was operated.

He had excessive appetite. He was very fond of spicy food, sour food, eggs, chicken, chocolates and cheese. He was particularly averse to raw vegetables, salads and carrot juice. He used to smoke atleast 5 cigarettes a day from the age of 20. He used to have alcohol once in every 15 days. He had profuse perspiration, which was offensive and used to leave yellow stains on his clothes.

He used to reside with his mother and sister-in-law. He was very short-tempered. He would constantly shout at the person concerned to let off his anger. At the same time he would apologize for his mistakes. He gets easily attached to people. He describes himself as being very ‘emotional’. His symptoms of IBS used to leave him highly irritated. He had a great fear of rejection or being betrayed. He felt very bad when he was faced with rejection in his personal life and felt better by indulging in talking over matters or listening to music. He had a lot of insecurity about his future prospects of working abroad as he feared of not being able to cope with IBS. He would worry about his illness and constantly brood over it. He was very stubborn and wouldn’t listen to anyone.

He suffered from Malaria when he was 13 years of age. He had known allergies to dust and it used to often result in cough and sneezing.

His father had expired at the age of 40 due to myocardial infarction. He also suffered from Asthma and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. His brother had allergic Rhinitis. He was on conventional medications for a long time for his symptoms of IBS. Further investigations, (Fibreoptic Oesophago Gastro Duodenoscopy) revealed erosive oesophagitis and corpal gastritis.
After detailed case taking, he was prescribed constitutional homeopathic treatment. There has been significant improvement in his complaints of diarrhoea, alternating with constipation and bloating sensation in the abdomen. There was significant improvement in his complaints of knee pain. He had been asked to continue his treatment for further relief.
