Intense burning in the middle portion of the chest and upper abdomen accompanied with sour regurgitation. 26 years old experiences heaviness in the abdomen and occasional flatulence.

A 26 years old female Mrs. T. K (Patient ref. no.: L6814) reported to the clinic for complaints of hyperacidity since 1 year. Her complaints had significantly increased since the last 2 months and she would get these symptoms daily. She would get intense burning in the middle portion of the chest and upper abdomen accompanied with sour regurgitation. She would also experience heaviness in the abdomen and occasional flatulence. These complaints were frequently accompanied with nausea that had ended up in vomiting on a couple of occasions. When the symptoms would get very severe, she would develop headaches and giddiness. These symptoms would be worse in the morning and worse from spicy food. She would be temporarily better after vomiting out. She had been on antacids for her complaints but these would give her only temporary relief and as soon as their effect would wane off, she would start getting symptoms again.

Her appetite was normal and she was fond of spicy foods in general. She disliked sweets, butter and cheese. Her thirst for water was normal and she had no complaints regarding her stools or urine. She would sweat profusely and she would be more comfortable in colder climates. Her menses were regular and she would get backache before menses. Her sleep was sound and refreshing.

She was a housewife and she stayed with her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law. She was observed to have a very nervous temperament overall from her presentation at the clinic. She said that she would get anxious over trifling matters and would tend to brood on and on about the same things. She would not be able to stay alone and would prefer to be in the company of people. She would weep easily and described herself as very sensitive and emotional. She would feel much better after being consoled. Her temperament was quite moody and her mood would change very easily. She would occasionally get irritable and her anger would be better after she would weep.

She was suffering from typhoid in the past once and apart from this there was no other past history of any medical problem. Amongst her family members, her grandmother suffered from hypertension, diabetes and some thyroid problem of which she had no details.

As mentioned earlier, she had been on allopathic medication on and off for her complaints and when she reported to us, she had been on antacids daily for last 2 months.

Based on the above history, she was prescribed a remedy Graphites 200 along with another remedy Capsicum 100 for a period of 1 month. During this 1 month, her complaints improved by 70 to 80% and she completely stopped all antacids. All her symptoms of burning pain, regurgitation, nausea and abdominal discomfort improved significantly and she felt much more comfortable in general. Her medication was continued for some more time till she recovered completely. She would experience mild symptoms about once in a fortnight later and these would never again require any antacid again. At the end of about 3 months, her treatment was concluded and she was asked to report to us in case she had any problem anytime.
