Mrs. V. S. R., 64 years old well read and knowledgeable lady (Patient Identification Number - 19263) visited our center on 15th June 2012 for her complaint of Trigeminal Neuralgia. Her complaints had started 2 years back. She was symptom free for a month each for 2 times in past 2 years. She was a firm believer in homeopathy as her father was a practicing homeopathic doctor. She was not willing to take conventional medicines, though it had been prescribed. She had right sided neuralgia which had increased since past 4 – 5 months. The electric shock like pain was there continuously but the severe pain would occur 7 – 8 times in a day. The intensity of the pain being so severe would bring tears to her. The triggering factors would include brushing, sipping water or tea, opening mouth, loud sounds, gargling etc. Her MRI scan and other blood reports were normal. She had been taking homeopathic medicines on her own which gave her mild relief.
She also had a patch of eczema on right knee which was treated with homeopathic medicines. There was only dryness now, no active lesion.
She did not have any specific liking or disliking. Her thirst was normal, but she could not take much water due to the pain. The perspiration was scanty. She was sensitive to warm weather. She had attained menopause 20 years back.
She was staying with her daughter and son in law. Her husband was retired. She was a home maker. Her daughter and son in law were working. She stayed with them to look after her 2 grand sons.
She was a strict disciplinarian and was particular regarding things done on time. She would see to it that everything is kept in order. She was straight forward and frank by nature. She had a habit of constantly washing hands.
Her mother had expired due to breast cancer while her sister was a survivor of breast cancer. Her brother was suffering from diabetes.
Her case was studied in detail and was prescribed Carcinosin 30c along with few research based medicines by Dr. Shah.
She visited on 27th July 2012 for the first follow up and reported with 50 – 60% improvement in Trigeminal Neuralgia. Now she was comfortable while speaking; earlier she had severe pain while talking. The triggering factors like brushing etc would still cause problem but in less intensity.
She reported on 7th September with no further improvement in her complaints. Her case was in control with no further deterioration. Her case details were reviewed and prescription was upgraded by Dr. Shah.
She reported on 30th October with mild increase in the frequency of the pain with respect to the triggering factors but the intensity of the pain was bearable at present. The pain would last for 2 -3 minutes. Any activity pertaining to the right side of face would lead to increase in the pain. Stress or loud sound too would increase her pain.
She reported on 10th January 2013 with around 80% relief in Trigeminal Neuralgia. There had been further reduction in the frequency of the attacks but the intensity at times would be severe to bring tears. The triggering factors were cold draft, stress, anger and touching the skin near the nostril or cheek.
She reported on 27th April with around 90% – 95% relief in Trigeminal Neuralgia. The pain was very mild now and of a very low intensity, lasting for a few seconds.
