Use and misuse of cortisone for Psoriasis

The conventional medicine uses cortisone in various forms, such as local (topical) cream, oral and injected cortisone for the treatment of psoriasis.

Cortisone being a powerful immunosuppressive medicine, does give immolate relief in psoriasis, however, the long-term effects are often ignored by the conventional doctors. The common observations with the use of cortisone by doctors are as under:

  • Cortisone may help initially for a short time
  • Stopping of cortisone almost invariably leads to the reappearance of psoriasis.
  • Continuous use of cortisone on some patches are likely to suppress those patches but lead to new patches of psoriasis elsewhere on the body.
  • Cortisones treated relapses are more severe, more complex, and more difficult to treat.
  • It is wise to avoid cortisone as far as possible and reserve its use for most severe cases psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
  • Cortisone puts you to the vicious cycle of dependency
  • Cortisone dependents have to come out of the vicious cycle
  • Cortisones produce side effects by hampering the immunity, lowering resistance, disturbing hormonal cycle, etc.

In our experience and as per the medical philosophy of homeopathy, cortisone in any form (oral, systemic or local) is not a wise option for treating psoriasis. As per the homeopathic approach and the philosophy, cortisone is a suppressing measure and there are all chances of relapse after stopping the use of cortisone.

It has been observed in daily practice, that, use of cortisone produces dramatic results initially. However, its influence is quite superficial, as the eruptions not only relapse after stopping the Cortisones, but they relapse more aggressively. The use of Cortisones is not recommended due to the following observations:

Let us talk a bit more about suppression with cortisone. As we understand, psoriasis just an expression altered immune system. Cortisone simply masks the eruption without treating the inner cause. Such a measure is understood to be suppressive. Homeopathy is against any use of local cream for treating any skin disease in general and psoriasis in particular. Non-suppressive treatment is considered superior for any medical disorder, except for life-threatening disease conditions.

Cortisone works like a mask that gives temporary pleasure initially and increased suffering later.
