Use a good moisturizer: Psoriasis is known to make the skin dry. The dry skin induces more and more itching. Increased itching in turn aggravates the psoriatic symptoms. To break this vicious cycle patients of psoriasis need to apply a generous amount of moisturizer on the skin soon after bathing. Applying moisturizer daily for 2-3 times in a day gives much relief. Petroleum jelly is the cheapest and most widely used moisturizer by the people world over with very good results.

Bathe with warm water: Warm water bath can prove beneficial for the patients of psoriasis. Patients of psoriasis should avoid hot water, as hot water makes the skin dry and thereby worsens the disease condition.

Avoid bathing for a long period of time: Patients of psoriasis should not exceed bathing for more than 15 minutes. This can destroy the natural oil that is produced by the skin.

Avoid using harsh soaps for bathing: The patients of psoriasis should use PH balanced mild soaps. Using harsh soaps can damage the skin and make it dry causing more itching. Drink plenty of water: Water is very essential to maintain the elasticity of the skin and avoiding the dryness of the skin. Patients of psoriasis are advised to drink at least 10 to 12 glasses of water to maintain necessary hydration of the skin.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables: Fresh fruits and vegetables provide a lot of antioxidants and minerals and vital nutrients to the body. A diet rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin E are known to maintain the good health of the skin. So patients of psoriasis are advised to eat more of fruits and vegetables like papaya, pumpkins, carrots, spinach, broccoli etc.

Omega 3 fatty acids: These are found in flax seeds and certain fish like Salmon, Tuna and Herring etc. Omega 3 fatty acids are very beneficial for maintaining the natural smoothness, glow and elasticity of the skin

Avoid smoking and alcohol: Smoking has adverse effect on entire body. Skin is no exception to it. Alcohol can cause dehydration in the body and can make the skin dry. This can worsen the psoriasis.
